Station 8 – Jesus and the Women Speak

Poet Addrienne Rich states that, “Lucky are those who know they are more alike than different. They can know they are not alone.” When we experience our pain, it can be easy to become self-focused. I am the only one feeling this.

When Jesus speaks to the women, he shows that when we are carrying our crosses it may also cause us to notice the pain of others more clearly. We are not alone. We are not isolated. No person is an island. What we are experiencing now may be an indication of what others may continue to face if things do not change for them. We may be able to see life and consequences that are not presently revealed or seen by others.

Thoughts to ponder:

Have you ever felt like you are the only one experiencing something?

How did you feel?

Does it help to know another has had a similar experience to yours when you are looking for someone to understand and share your cross?

Have you had the experience of being more aware because of what you were experiencing at the moment?
